Traveling turns you into a great storyteller.

Puerto Rico

The translation is “rich port” referring to the wealth gained through Puerto Rico’s trading past. However, the term also has another meaning for me. This country is rich in culture, diversity, and love. I experienced the beauty of San Juan, P.R. as a gift to my then eleven-year old son, Seth.

  • Puerto Rico is an incredibly rich and diverse culture with distinct food, language, and music.

  • Upon arriving in San Juan, you will find public transportation is reliable as well as ride share options.

  • I knew before embarking on this trip I would enjoy the sites, sounds, and smells. I mean, it’s Puerto Rico! While I was not prepared, I was open to the cultural connection with the island nation. People of all ethnicities and tongues ate, worked, laughed, and played beside one another in harmony.

Cartagena, Colombia

Growing up in America, everything I ever heard about Colombia was negative and entrenched in drugs and a culture of violence. As I began traveling, I learned that I must unlearn everything I thought I knew…and not just about Colombia. Caribbean, Central and South American nations are often marginalized through how we learn about them. What I found in the people of Colombia was community, perseverance, and a deep love for their history and contributions to their country.

  • The African Diaspora culture is evident from the moment you arrive in the Old City of Cartagena.

  • Take the yellow cabs and not the white ones. There are no ride share options here. Visit the Old City, Barranquilla…

  • As a brown girl, I felt embraced and welcomed. Aside from not speaking Spanish fluently, I was no different than many of the locals I encountered
